Geylang
A photography assignment recently led me to Geylang, and I’m wondering what in the world I was doing all my life.
Absolutely satisfying dim sum, at very kind prices. Their Siew Mai is very oomph, what with mushrooms inserted. The Char Siew Pau, or BBQ pork buns, are real good; meaty without being fatty, their skins are also very taut – unlike normal buns. The shrimp dumplings are so fresh! Prices average at $2.50 to $3 per serving.
I could keep raving; tonight was my second time there in three days.
Mongkok Dim Sum, directly near Lorong 6 if I’m not wrong. It is very near the chinese temple and mosque; right across the road. Open weekdays at 4, saturdays at noon, and sundays at 10, they close at about 5 am.
Once you’re done with the dim sum, dash across the road for absolutely good beef kway teow; you can’t miss it – “Famous Geylang Beef Kway Teow” is emblazoned on red signage. A $12 plate fed three comfortably (then again, the three had just come from the dim sum place).
And, of course, wash it all down with a glass of soy milk next door, at $1. Stay away from the yu tiao there if you’re not a fan of oil though.
And damn. I’m hungry again.
you are lucky you don’t know me. black arse…...................... we love you! :)
